Welcome to the home of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Committee, Inc., dedicated to establishing and preserving Belmont’s memorials to its veterans and those who died in service.

In 2015, the Belmont Veterans Memorial Committee spearheaded the restoration of the town’s majestic monument to those who served in “The Great War” (World War I). The work was finished ahead of schedule and 37% under budget. Now, the committee is working to establish a site at the southeast corner of Clay Pit Pond, where those who served in all the conflicts since Belmont became a town will be commemorated: from the Civil War to present.

The site at Clay Pit Pond is already a memorial, having a flag and small plaque mounted on a stone and dedicated May 10th, 1940. The plaque reads, “In Honor of those Citizens Who Served the United States in War.” The committee plans to repair the rock wall surrounding the flag and stone, install low granite markers for each of the conflicts and provide benches and subdued lighting for the site. In contrast to the grand memorial for WWI, this site will blend into the natural surroundings and be multi-purpose. The committee is working in conjunction with the town’s conservation committee to improve the paths that lead to and around the memorial site and pond. The site will allow Belmont to commemorate veterans from all the wars since the Civil War, including the War with Spain, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War.

If you would like to be a part of the effort to create a place which will commemorate our servicemen and women, teach our children about sacrifice, and provide a place where people can gather and reflect, then please consider contributing to the Belmont Veterans Memorial Fund.
